Common Signs and Symptoms of Pregnancy
Nausea/ Vomiting, Itching,
Urinary Frequency, Extreme Fatigue
Here are four common signs and symptoms of pregnancy. And how they are
to be handled when, as a pregnant woman, you experiences any one of them:
Nausea Accompanied by Vomiting is one of the commonest signs and
symptoms of pregnancy. It is believed to be connected with hormonal changes.
Anything containing ginger such as ginger biscuits, ginger capsules or
ginger tea gives relief. A few experienced mothers state that pregnant women should consume dry crackers every
morning in bed, before leaving it.
Nausea and vomiting symptoms last for some time only. In case the
symptoms refuse to go away for quite a long period of time, it is time to take the doctor's advice. Known as
hyperemesis gravidarum, this condition can lead to dehydration as the woman is unable to keep any solids or liquids
down. The ultimate step is hospitalization.
Itching is also one of the signs and symptoms of pregnancy, but it
is seen in rougly 20% of women who have conceived. As the uterus continues to expand trying to accommodate the
growing fetus, the skin over the abdomen stretches and leads to itchiness.
Another reason for this problem could be change in hormonal levels. So
the itching is transferred to the palms and soles.
How does one deal with this irritant? Just use aqueous cream, a common
moisturizer on the affected areas. A doctor needs to be consulted if the itching spreads to the whole body. And
also if it is present during the third trimester, as it could probably be heralding a liver problem like obstetric
Urinary Frequency is noticed in the first three months as well as
during the last month of pregnancy. So this is also one of the common signs and symptoms of pregnancy. Increased
hormones and an expanding uterus could prove an obstruction to the passage of urine. Because of slowness in passing
urine, the mother-to-be is at increased risk for developing frequent urinary infections throughout the entire
length of her pregnancy.
The solution to this problem is to take in plenty of fluids, especially
cranberry juice. The minute she senses an urgency to urinate, the pregnant woman must look for a bathroom.
Extreme Fatigue. In the list of signs and symptoms of pregnancy,
is also the feeling of extreme fatigue. This is the result of the extra stress a woman has to undergo during this
time. The symptoms are more evident during the first 12 to 15 weeks.
Plenty of rest is advised therefore, in the form of frequent naps and
early bedtime. In some cases, the woman may be suffering from anemia because of not taking proper care of herself.
Only the doctor can suggest a cure, as in the case of the other signs and symptoms of pregnancy.
